Wandered the edges of Twofold Bay for a while not long ago. Barefoot, sunburnt, half-hypnotised by the reef flickering just beneath the skin of the water. Slid in with ’90s goggles and drifted. The sea was glass-clear, full of spine and shimmer. Fish moved like rumours, and the coral clung on—stubborn and quiet. After several days of campfire smoke nesting in my hair, the salty waves were lovely.

Up on the surface, kite surfers tore across the bay, flinging themselves into the wind like they were trying to escape gravity. It all felt raw. Unfiltered.

The strip of beaches and coves in and around Eden are beautiful, brutal, and alive. I felt, emotionally, like I belonged... or had been here before. But I hadn’t.
